Neston Community Energy Backs Ambitious Cycling and Walking Plans

Posted on 16 October 2025 By admin No Comments on Neston Community Energy Backs Ambitious Cycling and Walking Plans

Neston Community Energy welcomes  Cheshire West and Chester Council’s draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP),  as a “vital step” toward a low-carbon and resilient future for the area.

As a  community-led organisation, which works to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy and transport, we believe prioritising walking and cycling is a foundation for a more sustainable, energy efficient transport system.

“For Neston, where car dependency is high due to limited public transport options, safe and attractive cycling and walking routes are critical to enabling sustainable choices,”

Connecting Communities

In our submission we emphasised the importance of:

  • Direct cycle routes linking Neston with Chester, Ellesmere Port, Wirral and North Wales
  • Upgraded links to the Wirral Way, improving surfaces, lighting, and safer town-centre connections
  • Cross-border routes to Deeside Industrial Park, enabling greener commuting options
  • Safe links between nearby villages such as Burton, Parkgate, and Willaston

Safe, Inclusive and Healthy Travel

We also called for investment in segregated cycle paths, safe road crossings, and secure cycle parking to make active travel accessible for all ages and abilities — including those using mobility aids and cargo bikes.

Beyond transport, we highlighted the link between active travel, clean energy, and wellbeing, urging the council to align LCWIP delivery with renewable energy projects, EV charging infrastructure, and public health goals.

Community at the Heart

Neston Community Energy encourage continued collaboration between the council, local residents, schools, and businesses to ensure new routes reflect “lived experience and local needs.”
