Funding Update
We’ve submitted two exciting funding bids to Great British Energy’s Community Fund.
We’re pleased to let you know that Neston Community Energy has submitted two Stage1 applications to the GB Energy Community Fund (GBECF). These will support the next phase of our work to bring locally owned, low-carbon energy to the CH64 area.
1. Local Energy Club – Feasibility Study
This project will explore whether we can set up a Local Energy Club for Neston (CH64) —allowing local households and businesses to buy electricity directly from local generators at a fair, stable price.
The study will:
-
-
- Identify which homes and generators can be connected through the same primary substation,
- Assess local interest and potential membership,
- Develop a financial and operating model for one or more Energy Clubs. If successful, this could allow local solar and wind generation to power local homes, keeping money and carbon savings in the community.
-
2. Agri-energy Clean Energy Feasibility Study
This project will assess the feasibility of installing solar, wind, battery storage and EV charging on farm buildings. The aim is to create a community-owned clean energy scheme on the site that could:
-
- Power farm buildings,
- Supply a future Local Energy Club,
- Generate surplus income for local community benefit.
What happens next?
GB Energy will assess Stage 1 applications over the coming months. If we’re successful, both projects will move into detailed feasibility and community engagement during 2026.
We’ll keep members updated — and there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved as the projects develop.
