{"id":178,"date":"2025-10-16T11:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nestoncommunityenergy.co.uk\/?p=178"},"modified":"2025-10-16T11:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T11:28:11","slug":"neston-community-energy-backs-ambitious-cycling-and-walking-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nestoncommunityenergy.co.uk\/?p=178","title":{"rendered":"Neston Community Energy Backs Ambitious Cycling and Walking Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><strong>Neston Community Energy<\/strong>\u00a0welcomes \u00a0Cheshire West and Chester Council\u2019s draft\u00a0<strong>Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)<\/strong>, \u00a0as a \u201cvital step\u201d toward a low-carbon and resilient future for the area.<\/p>\n<p>As a \u00a0community-led organisation, which works to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy and transport, we believe prioritising walking and cycling is a foundation for a more sustainable, energy efficient transport system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Neston, where car dependency is high due to limited public transport options, safe and attractive cycling and walking routes are critical to enabling sustainable choices,\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Connecting Communities<\/h4>\n<p>In our submission we emphasised the importance of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Direct cycle routes<\/strong>\u00a0linking Neston with\u00a0<strong>Chester, Ellesmere Port, Wirral and North Wales<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Upgraded links to the Wirral Way<\/strong>, improving surfaces, lighting, and safer town-centre connections<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cross-border routes to Deeside Industrial Park<\/strong>, enabling greener commuting options<\/li>\n<li><strong>Safe links between nearby villages<\/strong>\u00a0such as Burton, Parkgate, and Willaston<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Safe, Inclusive and Healthy Travel<\/h4>\n<p>We also called for investment in\u00a0<strong>segregated cycle paths<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>safe road crossings<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>secure cycle parking<\/strong>\u00a0to make active travel accessible for all ages and abilities \u2014 including those using mobility aids and cargo bikes.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond transport, we highlighted the link between\u00a0<strong>active travel, clean energy, and wellbeing<\/strong>, urging the council to align LCWIP delivery with\u00a0<strong>renewable energy projects<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>EV charging infrastructure<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>public health goals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Community at the Heart<\/h4>\n<p>Neston Community Energy encourage continued collaboration between the council, local residents, schools, and businesses to ensure new routes reflect \u201clived experience and local needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in sustainable energy and local transport come and join us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Neston Community Energy\u00a0welcomes \u00a0Cheshire West and Chester Council\u2019s draft\u00a0Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), \u00a0as a \u201cvital step\u201d toward a low-carbon and resilient future for the area.
